There is never a perfect time to do something.

What there is though, is opportunity to do something.
I’m sure we can all think of things in our past where we hesitated, resisted or held back on taking an action because it wasn’t “the right time”, only to discover later that we missed an opportunity.
Missed opportunities breed regrets and there is little else in the world worse than regret.
However, seeing opportunity and diving in with reckless abandon can be dangerous in it’s own way.
What if XYZ happens, you ask…
Well, what if it doesn’t?

Everything in life that is worthwhile comes with an element of uncertainty and risk. This is the price we are required to pay to get to the gold.
If we apply this idea to running, I’m sure many us would never have gotten past the front door when we started your running careers. There will be many that would never have signed up for a race, and there would be plenty of us that never got to push ourselves so hard that we got to smell the scent of our own limits. For those in the last category, I’d bet my house that you would not have swapped that experience for anything. I’d bet that no matter how much you suffered or how much of a toll that experience took on your body and your mind that you are still glad you did it.

As we come into summer, there is a tendency to look at the improving weather and the thoughts of end of year holidays and think, “now is the time to take action”. YES, this is true, but “NOW” is always the right time anyway. NOW is the right time because yesterday is too late and tomorrow never comes.

Do you want something more for your body, your mind, your health, your family, your career, your life, yourself?

Someone far smarter than me taught me that you need to be the change you want to see in your world. Don’t wait. Create the change NOW.

Run long,
Shaun Brewster.
